Here is the truth tuition free college: It makes total economic sense. First, graduates, like many veterans with the GI Bill, come out of college debt free. What does this mean to the real economy? Well it frees up capital, that would have been spent paying back loans, that is spent in the real economy. The one you and I live in. People spending money, not tax cuts to the rich, actually create jobs. Secondly, you have highly educated work force that will create new businesses and technologies; which creates jobs; which turns to more spending and tax revenue which pays for college tuition.
Then, the question of how do we pay for it? Well those people are going to go out and get jobs, make money and spend money. This money will be taxed. Thus paying for itself. This is why the GI Bill doesn’t cost the tax payer money. And that is why it makes economic sense.
Now who would be against this? Very simple: Wall St. You see banks give out student loans and tact on high interest rates that the students have to pay back. This is money that is not being spent in the real economy. This is houses that are not being bought. This is jobs that are not created.
So with everything that is going on in the world and here in America, I think it is time that I start writing on here in Notes from Outpost 187. This is a blog about politics, foreign policy and social issue blog, and there is much to write about. For those who know me know I have opinions and thoughts on a wide range of topics. I try my best to be thoughtful and take a Socratic approach to things. I also have a great interest in our world, and I want to share them with you all. I am merely trying to add to the discussion and contribute to our democracy.
I also would love to hear your opinions and thoughts. Please try to thoughtful and polite, but if you can’t be, I forgive you.
So I saw on the Facebook a post from a guy that I had served with a MEME that said Official ISIS Hunting License, and thought to myself “ok, go then.” He served with me in the 82nd Airborne Division and has a Ranger Tab. I have many friends who I served with that are constantly posting anti-ISIS post, and my attitude is simple: Put up or shut up. Get your ass over there, link up the Kurds and fight. And I am being serious when I say that.
Seriously, these guys are really good fighters. Some with 2 combat tours under their belt, including a combat jump. The Kurds would benefit greatly with the caliber of fighters these guys are The Kurds need the help, knowledge and leadership that these guys posses.
And this goes to all ex-paratroopers, rangers, and special operators. Get in shape go over and fight ISIS. You are the best trained soldiers in the world and the Kurds need your help. And I say the Kurds because they are pro United States and they have their shit together.
And as far as I go, I am cripple, I broke my back on a jump in 94, yet I stated to get back into combat shape. If I feel I can do the do, I will go as well.
It is true,I want Indiana and Arkansas to keep their Religious Freedom Restoration Act to in place. It allows anyone to discriminate anyone they chooses base off their religious beliefs. That mean LGBT, black, minorities and whomever they choose to discriminate. The reason I want it to stay in place is because of the backlash it is and will cause. We see business, conventions and other groups boycotting these states; which hits them hard economically . This will make other states to think twice if they are thinking about passing their own RFRA.
These bills also show what the Republican party is really about. They have become a religious party who, like ISIS, believes in strict social codes. The GOP and ISIS are vehemently against homosexuality and feel that it is an abomination to God. This is based off of their interpretation of their religious text. This opposition will drives people away from the GOP,because America has became a more tolerant nation. We are progressing in that way; which is nice to see.
I have no problem with these people, and here is why, we will get smart, hard worker people that will contribute to our nation and help boost the economy, which I am all for. We get a lot of smart immigrants who go to our colleges, get out, start businesses and contribute to the economy. Excellent.
Also I do not want to take a mother or father away from their kids. That puts pressure on our desperately sad social services. I do not want to send a kid who came here as a child, grew up here and is American anyone else. All that kid knows is our country and being an American . He is an American.
Also immigrants do jobs that Americans will not do. Plan and simple. That crop is not going to pick itself. And this was recently proven when a farm put out a call for workers to pick their crops and they got no one to pick it. And that is just a hard fact.
I don’t get the hatred that is generated over people trying to make a better life for themselves in the supposed Land of Opportunity. .
These people are trying to obtain the American dream which, if they do, America is better for it, and boosts our economy. Which is a great thing. Also the business community wants something done because of just that.
We need to get over ourselves.
For those who know me and follow my film blog My Journey into Film, I have been working on a film since 2011 on sexual violence. It has evolved from rape to forced rape for profit know as the sex trade/trafficking. While having a conversation with my friend and Tampa filmmaker Marcus Kempton, I came up with the plot and story for the new film. My film also covers combat veterans returning for the wars and the issues they face, like PTSD and the horrors they bring back with them. These subjects are very important to me, for I am a veteran and have many friends who suffer from PTSD and other issues. The sex trade issue because I find it to be one of the most detestable things I think of. I have an unhealthy, no kidding, hatred towards pimps and sex traffickers. I also almost went to prison while working on this project because I tried to do the right thing but went about it the wrong way.
The reason behind me sacrificing so much time and emotion is to save kids, women and vets. I believe I can actually make and impact on these issues by creating awareness and start an honest conversation about these serious topics. This is why the marketing and distribution of this film is imperative. That is the reason why I write about this so much, and this is where you can help. Spread the word about this project and repost these blog post on your social media platforms and send these posts to your friends.
Now my interest in the sex trade was sparked in 2004 when I heard an interview done on NPR’s radio program “Fresh Air” about a expose that the writer Peter Landsman called the “Girls Next Store” for the New York Times Magazine. Of all the interviews I have ever heard on Fresh Air, this one has stuck with me. I also have been following the of Brook Bello who is an actress and founder of More to Life.
I feel really passionate ending the sex trafficking in America, but it is going to take the citizens to demand the our government does all it can do to end it. Now that being said, there is a lot being done, but we have a ways to go and we must keep pressure up and hold politicians accountable. I live in a state, Florida, where state government has and is doing a lot, but there is more work to be done.
Why combat veteran issues? Well for one thing, I am a retired United States Paratrooper who served in the 82nd Airborne Division. I was Airborne Infantry which means I was one of the most elite soldiers in the world, my job was to jump in to a country and lead men into combat. So, when it comes to those who did the fighting and killing I feel I have to tell their story. The war is not over for them, and they live with it everyday for the rest of their lives. It is estimated that 22 veterans commit suicide everyday, and it is a issue we need to address. My film deals with the psychological issues that face our veterans.
